Inside the dog pen, I lay quietly, watching the world.
Birds fluttered, their wings catching bits of sunlight as they danced between the two tallest oak trees in the yard. I counted each crossing (thirty in total) before they finally disappeared, one by one, into the distance for their nests.
Occasionally, my owner would glance over at me from down the hallway, her face softening with a mix of pity, then hardening again.
But to be fair, I deserved this time-out. Marking your territory the moment you enter someone else’s isn’t exactly good manners.
I should have remembered that.

After the sky had turned a dark shade of royal blue, my owner finally let me out of the cage, soothing me with a sweet voice and gentle pets.
Owner! Stop worrying! I am fine! I deserved to get isolated in the pen! I tried to communicate by sloppy licks on her face. At last, she finally understood and let me onto the ground to continue my house exploration.
